Who we help (aka Services)

All Services

We provide therapy services, holistic counselling and clinical hypnotherapy services for young people (12-18), adults (18-64) and older adults (64+).  Our goal is to promote health and wellbeing, as well as long term emotional stability, cognitive changes, and behavioural changes in the clients that we serve.  We provide individualized psychotherapy services in and around Blaxland, in NSW Lower Blue Mountains area.

We work with people with a wide range of emotional, cognitive and behavioural issues, for example, people who have anxiety, depression, panic attacks, emotional disturbances, stress management, anger management, trauma and PTSD.  We use a holistic approach - which takes into consideration the physical body, emotional and cognitive processes, and well as spiritual considerations - always... always working within the clients framework (e.g. Christian counselling for Christians, Buddhist based counselling for Buddhists, and working with a persons "sense of self" for Atheists and others).

Psychological Services:

  • Has depression and/or low mood been causing you problems?
  • Have you felt overwhelmed with sadness, or feeling negative, pessimistic, hopeless or helpless?
  • Have you been "off your game" - as if you've "lost your spark"?
Being depressed is just about the most awful feeling we can experience.  Some people describe it as a "black dog" that follows them around, others says it's like be "cocooned" from reality, and others feel as if they are in a "deep, dark hole" and they can't find their way out.  Depression is far more common than you might think.  People sink into a depressed mood when their fundamental needs are not met.  Next they start worrying or ruminating about the situation, they may stay in an emotional state longer than they should, and they start to loose sleep over "it".  But these unmet needs are accumulative and are compounding.  These feelings may have been in there since you were 4, or 12, or 40!  It's possible that certain skills that you needed when you were younger were never learnt, or that events were never addressed.  The good news is, you are not alone, AND things can get better.

If you feel as if depression has been causing your problems... hypnotherapy can help lift your low mood and help you feel better

If you have felt overwhelmed by sadness, negativity, pessimism, hopeless or helpless... hypnotherapy can help you take control of your mental processes and emotional states... and break free of the prison that has bound you.

If you feel you've lost your spark, been off your game, or not enjoying life as much as you used to... then hypnotherapy can help you rekindle your passion for life and others, it can help you reconnect and re-engage with yourself and others... get a better sense of who you are...

Over the years, thousands of people with depression have been helped with hypnotherapy.  In the Castle Hill region of Sydney, Skills 4 Life Hypnosis & Counselling Centre is here to help.

Hypnotherapy Treatments for Depression

Treating Depression with hypnotherapy can be FUN!  It can be exciting.  And it can lead to permanent changes!

The program used at Skills 4 Life Hypnosis & Counselling Centre incorporates important psycho-education along side hypnotherapy treatments, and uses experiential metaphors between appointments to enhance the outcomes.  However, the program is individually tailored to you.  No two people get the exact same treatment.  Some people need only 1-2 appointments, others require several depending on the severity of the depression, and the underlying causes.  Having said this, most people report a significant improvement within the first 2-3 appointments.

Here is a list of some of the areas the program covers:

  1. Understanding Depression:  Getting the Whole Picture of what's going on is an important part of beating the depression.  You will be given a comprehensive e-book that explains what depression is, what it isn't and eliminates much of the inaccurate information that is out in popular culture and self help books.  Even some GP's don't have the most up to date information.  Once you understand the Whole Picture, I think you'll agree, feeling better can be easier than you thought.
  2. The Cycle of Depression:  Depressed people follow a pattern of behaviour.  This pattern of behaviour includes specific thinking and ruminating styles, feelings of helplessness, hopelessness and anxiety, emotional rumination, activation of the bodies stress response, impaired sleeping patterns exhaustion, imparted motivation, fewer pleasant experiences, increased sensitivity, and so on.  This cycle keeps the person stuck.
  3. The Physical Effects, the Thinking Styles, and the "Negative Spin":  Here we will talk about serotonin, dopamine and GABA.  A episode of depression can change your biochemical levels (not the other way around).  But the originating cause was most likely a thinking or emotional rumination style that set you into a negative (and most likely, downward) spin.  We will address not only the thinking and feeling, but the behavioural patterns that accompany them.  You'll learn how to see things differently, and how to create an upward spiral, rather than a negative spin.
  4. How to Depress Yourself:  Yes, you will learn how to depress yourself too!  Well, surely if you can learn how to depress yourself (and how you do depress yourself) you can learn the opposite too?  A wise man told me recently (thank you Peter) that most people don't think, they just ruminate.  Depressed people don't only see the negative events negatively, they also see positive events negatively.  Thus, you will learn how lift your mood by learning a) how to think; b) the sorts of thinking patterns that will get you unstuck, and c) how to cope when you don't and can't possibly know the answer.
  5. Experiential Tasks:  It is helpful if you have an open mind.  Particularly around homework assignments.  From time to time you will be asked to conduct a type of social experiment.  These are designed as experiential metaphors - they usually have a hidden meaning.  You're task will be to uncover the meaning in the metaphor.

Hypnotherapy can help you break the links in the chain that keep the Cycle of Depression.

You will have to do your part too, you will have tasks to do, but they’ll be easy and fun.
