The Reason Why Most Stress Management Programs Don’t Work

You see, the reason that most stress management programs they only focus on the "outer layer" (or what you already know) and not on the "inner layer" (the stuff that's driving the stress that you aren't consciously aware of). Most stress management programs will help you identify the (known) sources of stress, how you cope with stress, how to avoid unnecessary stress and how to alter the situation - but they won't identify the unknown subconscious stress - therefore your mind is working against you

A client came in with a known stress (the outer layer) that was being driven by an unknown stress (the inner layer). She had over reacted at her daughter spending an extra $4 from the change on something the mother hadn't given her permission to buy. If you were only to identify the source of the stress, you'd probably think the problem was that the daughter had broken the rules or something similar.  But the reality was that in the inner layer (unconsciously) she (the client) didn't believe she wasn't of equal value to her husband.
